Apalachin is a CDP, or census-designated place, in Tiogo County in the state of New York. Apalachin is located in the southeastern area of the Town of Owego, 14 miles west of the city of Binghamton. It was named after Apalachin Creek and is home to approximately 1,150 people.

Apalachin’s history contains one of the most notorious stories involving the mafia in the mid-20th century. It’s said that several high-profile mob bosses had gathered in Apalachin to iron out their differences, when a state trooper stumbled upon their meeting and sent the group scrambling. Movies have been made referring to the blunder, including Analyze This and Goodfellas.
